The Most Expensive Players in IPL 2014 Auctions

More than 468 Crores were spent during the IPL auction as the eight franchises get ready for another season of arguably the biggest event in the Cricketing Arena.
Here’s a list of the players who went for the most money in this year’s auction.

1) Yuvraj Singh to RCB (14 Crores)

Some may say he’s gone for a lot of Money but Vijay Mallya Seems happy about the Inclusion of another marquee T20 player who will add to the talents of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, Ravi Rampaul and AB de Villiers.

2) Dinesh Karthik to Delhi (12.5 Crores)

Proven customer in the tournament with 1741 runs in 92 IPL games. Dinesh Karthik is a match winner as he showed last season in the Mumbai Indians Jersey. It is surprising that Mumbai Indians did not retain him and Mitchell Johnson who features later on the list.

3) Kevin Pietersen to Delhi (9 Crores)

Cricket’s latest mercenary and he doesn’t have to care about the international calendar anymore. His presence in the batting lineup is unsettling for the bowlers – but now they’ll have to contend with a fit and available KP for the whole season.

4) Mitchell Johnson to Kings XI Punjab (6.5 Crores)
Mitchell Johnson is fast, fearsome and in insane form. Enough Said.

5) Glenn Maxwell to Kings XI Punjab (6 Crores)
After the poor show in the last edition of the IPL, Maxwell is here to prove a point and justify the dollars doled out. And yes, he can do everything – the perfect T20 player. So he might just prove to be worth his hefty price tag.

6) Jacques Kallis to Kolkata Knight Riders  (5.5 Crores)
He’s 38 but that didn’t stop KKR from knighting him again. He has a whopping 2276 runs in 90 IPL games and a strike rate of above 100. Add to that 61 wickets. 5.5 Crores seems like a bargain now, doesn’t it?

7) David Warner to Sunrisers Hyderabad (5.5 Crores)
When he’s in the mood, he can devour the opposition bowlers. Also he had a cracking IPL 6 – scoring 410 runs in 16 matches with a strike-rate of 126.93.

8) Robin Uthappa to KKR (5 Crores)
Uthappa’s value has come down a bit but he’s still handy with the bat and a reliable customer.

9) Murali Vijay to Delhi Daredevils (5 Crores)
Has been a consistent performer over the years in IPL, Vijay’s permanent place in the Indian Team guarantees quality.

10) Michael Hussey to Mumbai Indians (5 Crores)
I’ll have to go with the cliché for Michael Hussey – Mr. Dependable.

11) Mitchell Starc to RCB (5 Crores)
A good fast bowler in a terrific run of form has to cost a good amount of money.
