Kaalrav has been well known for bringing together colleges from all over the north-eastern region and Kaalrav 2015 was no different. We saw the amazing talent from all the colleges unfold in the 3-day event. While all the on-stage events were going on, the athletes were hard at work in the basketball court. It was a well contested tournament as both the boys and the girls’ teams gave it their all.

During the course of the fest, I had the wonderful opportunity of engaging Kunga Chukie and the rest of IHM girls’ basketball team in a lively conversation about Kaalrav and the game they all loved.

Q) So it this your first time attending Kaalrav?

A) Yes, it’s our first time here.

Q) How do you feel about it? What’s the general review about?

A) It’s nice but the field tends to get quite dusty at times.

Q) Since this is your first time here, what were your first thoughts of our campus?

A) We like it here but everything is just a little spaced out. It takes a long time to get from one place to the other and that is a little inconvenient especially because we are drained out after playing basketball and going to the hostel from the court can be a tiring ordeal.

Q) Talking about your team now, how did the tournament go for you?

A) It went okay. We won a couple of games and reached the finals but unfortunately came out second. It was a good experience though.

Q) So could you tell me a little more about your team?

A) Yes, We have a basketball team called the Falcons and a few of our players were unable to join us due to prior engagement.

Q) Parikrama’s performance on the last day, did you guys enjoy it?

A) Parikrama was great. They really bought life to the crowd.

Q) Last but not the least, any word of advice to the organisers?

A) One thing that should change is the food stalls. They should not be exposed to all that dust. It was a bit unhygienic.

Kaalrav 2015 again fulfilled its promise and delivered 3 days of pure fun, competition and partying. It was great to see students from other colleges enjoying their stay here and here hoping that many more participate in the years to come.

KAALRAV 2k15 DAY "ZeRo"....!!!

0n the 13^th of March, the annual techno-cultural fest of Sikkim Manipal Institute of technology, popularly known as "Kaalrav", kicked off. It was the unveiling of a lot of hard work and effort put in by everyone who was a part of the event. The buzz started slowly in the afternoon with a few school busses arriving and the respective students checking in for the 3 day extravaganza.

The day had a different feel about it. A little murmur was constant with everyone discussing their plans to make it an epic night. The performers anxiously tuning their instruments and the volunteers speeding around getting things done in time. The day’s events started with the official inauguration and it was followed by the diya lighting and khaada presentation. The welcome song and welcome dance followed suit as the students of SMIT showed their prowess for extra-curricular activities. The VP’s address was much appreciated and he called upon our director, Col. Dr. Sadasivan thekkey Veetil to make his speech. This was followed by the Guest of Honour and Chief Guest’s addresses.

The lovely girls of Sikkim left a mark on everyone’s minds as the performed a lovely state dance. Then, the Kaalrav ’15 video was showcased and everyone seemed to appreciate the photography skills. The Sikkim Literary Festival attracted all the intellectual minds present. Care 4 Angels, along with their founder, showed us that there is no obstacle too big if you have the will power. They are a organisation that has been running since 2010. 

Next, the staff of SMIT brought out their younger selves as they presented a lovely performance for all to enjoy. 

                                                   

This followed the starting of two simultaneous events. The basketball match between the SMIT Raptors and Guwahati University was held at the OBH Basketball court and on the stage, SMIT’s very own band were testing everyone’s head banging skills. The end result was not favourable for the SMIT Raptors as they put up a good fight but lost by a margin of 8 points.

The end of the days’ events neared as the highly anticipated dj hunt was the last event. Everyone had their dancing shoes on as the DJs enthralled us with their tunes. DJ Adarsh Sharma and DJ Shubham Pradhan were the standout performers of that event.

The emcees gave the closing act to the day’s events with a promise of better things in the next two days. I think everyone can confidently say that Kaalrav is here!

**MANIPAL FOOTBALL PREMIER LEAGUE**

Manipal football premier league or its shibboleth short form "MPL" is a perpetual football tournament held in S.M.I.T. It is held in the early stages of the even semesters. In this event, teams participate and compete against each other, but not just like another random football tournament of a college. The main motto behind this tournament is to bring about new emerging footballing talents and also to give an opportunity to the ones who hardly get to fit a leg in the field considering the college’s population to the number of football grounds ratio in SMIT.

The initiative of organizing mpl is taken every year by the third year students of SMIT.

This year eight teams were created and counsel by 3rd year player managers namely – Chiranjeev, Diwaker, Keshav, Prakhar, Sanket, Kshitij, Rituraj and Kaushik. They were all provided by a fixed decided simulation money. Using which they had to buy players for their teams. And it was made mandatory that each team captain/manager shall buy players maintaining the criteria of limited equal money provided per captain.

All the managers served their teams being player managers. Except Prakhar, reason being his injury. Each teams comprised of three divisions. Division A, B And C.

Division A were the most experienced players who would expertise their game on a regular basis throughout the year.

The price for division A players were 1000 units and above.

Division B were semi experienced players who although being considered good players, did not have a regular practice of the game.

The price for division B players were 800 units and above.

Division C players consisted of the players who have the least experience in playing the game amongst the entire lot. It comprises of players who have always wanted to play the game but never got the opportunity to.

The price for division C players were 300 units and above.

The criteria were such that each team can play 2 A grade players, 3 B grade players and 3 or more C grade players in a game. The goalkeepers were not classified as any grades. Each team could play 9 players at a go, along with 3 substitutions which could be made inside the game time.

Each game comprised of two halves of 15 minutes each. Two games were played per evening after 8 pm till 9:45 pm.

But for the most deciding games like the 5^th position match, the semifinals and the final. Each half comprised of 25 minutes.

Semi final 1 was Diwaker VS Sanket

Where in an extremely tight competition, Sanket’s team managed to defeat Diwaker’s team by 1 goal.

Semifinal 2 was between Kshitij vs Chiranjeev.

Chiranjeev’s team out numbered the opponent with a magnificent 5-1 Knockout.

Pratik of 1^st year turned out to be a rising star in this match, as he proved himself by scoring a flawless hattrick.

He also turned out to be the top scorer of the entire tournament. Fixing 5 goals to his name..

The fifth place match was won by Keshav’s team against Rituraj’s team.

And the third place match was won by Diwaker’s team against Kshitij’s team.

The final was thereby played between Chiranjeev and Sanket’s teams respectively.

Where, after an excruciating competition and unstoppable skill display, Sanket’s team managed to triumph 1-0.

The statistics approved of Sanket to be the Best defender of the tournament and Harshad to be the emerging star goalkeeper of SMIT, who although never goalkeeped before showcased and improvised great skills and dedication throughout the tournament.

This tournament shook up a different level of passion amongst many. It showed, as players with injuries refused to leave the field and give up.

The heated temperament, the dedication and the relentless effort that was brought about by the ignited passion amongst was indeed inspiring to watch.

The dawn of this tournament led to disappointments amongst the hearts of all the players since they mesmerized for more action.

And their wishes might as well come true since a strong rumor says that MPL 2 of the year 2015 is going to be held pretty soon.

So keeping our expectations high and our love for this marvelous sport ignited, we all look forward to the greatly awaited, MPL 2!

What India is all About…

Rich and Poor, probably a very controversial topic, isn’t it? So today I am going to elaborate, what is a rich person and what is a poor person. I am in no sense going to compare them but will just state the facts that why rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer…….at a little deeper level.

Let`s first talk about the community, community is a group of people carrying the same characteristics or thoughts in the form of religion, cast, business etc. `N` number of reasons are available in India to form a community. People here like to be in the form of environment where they get a feeling of being praised and think the way they feel. We as Indians, we hardly like to explore the situation outside our comfort level. We are scared all the time, and the reason for it is also very silly, we think that if we are out of our comfort level then we won`t be able to sustain mentally over there. We as an Indian lack the mental strength to face the dim lights of the world. The problem with us is that we like to keep a stable thing in life, stable forever, rather than trying to uplift our life in all sense, I mean financially, educationally, mentally(learning new things), etc…..facts never end in this case. As we like to say “chal raha haina chalne do, kyun badalna hai, kuch ho gaya toh!!”. Very well then, I am sure Dhirubai Ambani didn't have the thought permanent stability, rather he risked his life and showed the world that how one can become from rags to rich. If we have the mental confidence and high determination then nothing in this world is impossible to achieve.

Our Indian constitution clearly mentions “Right to Equality”, but from which point are we equal? We have a discriminating mentally at every point of time in our life. It is just not our fault, it is also the fault of the person who is making us feel discriminative towards him too. We, as a whole, need to develop at each and every aspects in our life for the things that we lack in. No one is asking us to think of others, we should think of ourselves, the moment we start thinking of ourselves, path will land us to think for others. By thinking for our own self, I mean thinking that how do we make our life perfect or adorable. Now the question comes what is a perfect life? The thought of having a balanced life and executing it is a step toward a perfect life. A balanced life is to have everything in the correct proportion. If I have an excess amount of money, I would use it for the development of my nation and helping the poor and uneducated people by showing them a path in which they can make their life a better place to stand. Now people may say, if I have earned something then why should I share it? In the Holy book of Gita and Bible, it is written that God has made everything for everyone in the equal amount, but the day when people become greedy and their demand increases more than they require, that day poverty will set foot on earth and inequality will take place. No doubt about the fact that we are greedy in some way or the other, now a days the smaller level of it are unnoticed.

We can change the whole scenario of the world the day we work as one whole organization, the day we unite as a single race and not distinguish and categorize in class, that will be the day of a perfect united race, living in planet earth.

Is Republic Day Just a “Holiday” For Us?

On the eve of the 66^th Republic day, our reporters went around campus and interacted with the students to see how much today’s youth knew about the history of this day. Many questions were asked and the answers were tabulated. The questions were basic ones like the name of the person who drafted India’s constitution, the age of our constitution, and more.

We got many answers and only one student was able to get all the answers correct. There were a lot of funny responses amidst all the answers. Some people said that Barack Obama is the 'Prime Minister' of the USA while some were unable to tell us the age of our constitution.

As the questions got serious, we got many good answers. Some believed that India could not be called free unless we removed all the social and religious barriers that exist in our society. They said that India could not call itself a free, independent country unless the illiterate and the people living below the poverty line could stand on their own two feet. The amount of violence against women was another point most people talked about. There were another group of people who felt that we should compare India with itself. They believed that as a developing country, India will go through bad phases but we should have belief in our country.

It was heart-warming to see that today’s youth is concerned about India and we can say that as long as we have such level of interest and patriotism, India has a bright future ahead.
