Is Republic Day Just a “Holiday” For Us?

Reported by: The Chatter’s Reporter’s team.

On the eve of the 66th Republic day, our reporters went around campus and interacted with the students to see how much today’s youth knew about the history of this day. Many questions were asked and the answers were tabulated. The questions were basic ones like the name of the person who drafted India’s constitution, the age of our constitution, and more.

We got many answers and only one student was able to get all the answers correct. There were a lot of funny responses amidst all the answers. Some people said that Barack Obama is the 'Prime Minister' of the USA while some were unable to tell us the age of our constitution.
As the questions got serious, we got many good answers. Some believed that India could not be called free unless we removed all the social and religious barriers that exist in our society. They said that India could not call itself a free, independent country unless the illiterate and the people living below the poverty line could stand on their own two feet. The amount of violence against women was another point most people talked about. There were another group of people who felt that we should compare India with itself. They believed that as a developing country, India will go through bad phases but we should have belief in our country.
It was heart-warming to see that today’s youth is concerned about India and we can say that as long as we have such level of interest and patriotism, India has a bright future ahead.

Likes And Dislikes

LIKES:
1.       Faculty members are good, helpful and friendly.
2.       Hostel life is awesome and fabulous.
3.       Beautiful and peaceful environment with lots of nearby places to visit.
4.       Numerous fests go on in the college keeping students busy and entertained.
5.       People are very interactive and cooperating.
6.       Small area and cool weather; we can go anywhere by taking just a few steps.
7.       A lot to explore here; clubs like MUN and Reverbs.

DISLIKES:
·         Facilities aren’t sufficient as compared to the amount the college is charging.
·         4 hours of continuous studies is very monotonous and exhausting. The 15 minute break should not have been removed.
·         Mess charges have been increased but the quality is degrading.
·         Wi-Fi doesn’t work half the time.
·         Clubs aren’t active.
·         Sports equipment, football ground, gym and courts aren’t maintained.

·         CGPA rule creates hurdles for participation in events.

Aditya Verma (3rd Year CSE)

·         Changes in the In-Time of the college.
·         More emphasis should be laid on practical knowledge rather than theoretical lessons.
·         More co-ed activities should be introduced to give students an all-round exposure.

Mrinal (2nd year EE)

·         All Badminton courts need repair in A, C and E Quads.
·         Shuttles and other sports equipment could be provided to students at subsidsed rates.
·         Tournaments and events aren’t conducted properly.

Achal Kumar, Shreya Das and Aman Anand (4th year ECE)

·         Dedicated sports facilities should be provided.

·         ATM and stationary shops should be inside the campus.

Jyotika Sharma (1st year)

·         At the start of the academic year, we joined many clubs and now there is no activity in these clubs. I think this should change and the clubs should organize more activities.

·         The quality of food is very bad here.

·         We should have a special lunch/dinner atleast once in a month where the students get to pick their food.

·         We have classes till 6pm and if we have some work outside, we need to be back in by 7pm, which isn’t always possible. The in-time should be increased.

Ankita Chhetri and Sampada Shreshtha (1st year)

·         A stage is required where different events can be held. The E Quad is too small for fests.

·         There should be more of co-ed activities.

·         The college rules make it awkward for boys and girls. They should be allowed to interact more freely.
