With Louis Van Gaal being unveiled as the new manager of
Manchester united football club, a new era has begun. Manchester united had a
disappointing or rather shocking campaign under the ‘chosen one’ David Moyes,
finishing 7th in the league and outside the champions league for the
first time in twenty five years. As a result David Moyes was sacked and even
the interim manager club legend Ryan Giggs couldn't save the ship from sinking.
But Manchester united have shown a signal of intent by
signing Van Gaal as manager as they want to prove to the world that the last
season’s performance was a one-off. And the club could not have got a better
manager than him to achieve this. Louis van Gaal is one of the few managers in
the world who has won league titles in three different countries. Having
managed clubs like AZ Alkmaar, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Ajax and the
Netherlands national team, he is one of the most experienced managers. He also led
the Netherlands to a 3rd place finish in the 2014 FIFA World Cup ,with
the 5-1 demolition of defending champions Spain in the group stages and the
last minute substitution of Tim Krul whose heroics won them the penalty
shootout against Costa Rica, some of the highlights of the successful cup run.
He is arrogant, dominant, innovative and one of the best
tactician (and that’s what he says about himself!). In one such incident at
Bayern, Van Gaal didn't hesitate to drop his trousers just to show the players
that he had the balls to drop anyone. Well, that just says it all. Van Gaal has
a reputation of being a hard task master and does not take any tantrums from
the players (Wayne Rooney better be careful!). It would be interesting to see
how he handles the captaincy issue but as the word goes, Robin Van Persie would
be the one leading the red devils out of the tunnel.
The premier league managers like Wenger, Mourinho and
Pellegrini would certainly be looking over their shoulders with the arrival of
Van Gaal. A war of words is certain to follow when these heavy weights clash.
It would be fascinating to witness the face-off between “the special one” and
“the only one”. Forget the daily soaps, for the real drama tune in to the premier
league because it's gonna get exciting.
